The crash occurred in Alameda in 2021, and killed 27-year-old Nick Bianchi.

OAKLAND — A San Pablo man who ran a stop sign nearly four years ago, killing a 27-year-old man, has been sentenced to four years in state prison, records show.

Jose Hernandez-Alfaro, 36, pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter and was sent to prison March 21, via a plea deal with Alameda County prosecutors. He is next due in court on June 4, to determine how much restitution he has to pay to the victim’s family. He is currently incarcerated at the Sierra Conservation Facility in Jamestown, records show.

Hernandez-Alfaro was driving through Alameda on Sept. 8, 2021, when he ran a stop sign and struck another car, killing Nick Bianchi, the driver. He later admitted to having had a 24-ounce Corona beer can hours earlier, police said at the time. Hernandez-Alfaro posted $240,000 bail two days after the crash, and stayed out of custody until the plea deal was finalized. Prosecutors dropped drunk driving and hit and run charges as part of the plea deal, court records show.
