San Marcos leaders hope that offering tax breaks will attract grocery stores, the dearth of which in their city, they say, has become a major concern among residents. The City Council on May 7 unanimously approved a resolution outlining potential property and sales tax abatements for grocery stores, as elected officials said constituents are clamoring for more options. “It’s one of the number one issues we hear from everybody,” Council Member Mark Gleason said.
