American Airlines and San Antonio International Airport have teamed up to get the city's first nonstop flight to Washington , D.C. The Alamo City is closer than it's ever been to landing the coveted service to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after Wednesday's passage in Congress of a bill re-authorizing the Federal Aviation Administration . The legislation, which President Joe Biden is widely expected to sign, opens five new slots for direct service to D.C.
Fort Worth-based American Airlines' sole application for one of the slots will be to serve San Antonio, according to a news release from the airport. 'I will be pressing the U.S. Department of Transportation to swiftly approve applications for the five long-haul flights that I successfully included in this year’s FAA reauthorization bill and look forward to being on the first direct San Antonio-Reagan National flight later this year,” Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said in a statement.
