A 50-year-old man who died Sunday afternoon was from San Antonio. Robert Mikel, chief of Canyon Lake Fire and EMS, said the man was wearing a personal flotation device and it is unknown how he drowned. Officials didn’t release his identity. Mikel said the man was the first person to drown in Canyon Lake this year. He said the lake typically sees five to six drowning victims each year.A 55-year-old man from Cypress drowned on Monday evening. Mikel said the man had been with a group that had a boat and was pulling a tube, but he decided to get out and swim back to shore when they were about 40 yards out.

A woman saw him struggling and yelling for help so she jumped into the water to try to rescue him. He was conscious when she first reached him, but he had lost consciousness by the time she got him to shore. He was taken to a New Braunfels hospital but did not survive, Mikel said.
