San Antonio fighter Bam Rodriguez meets Juan Francisco Estrada on Saturday in Phoenix

The day four-division champion Roman Gonzalez was brought in as a sparring partner was cause for celebration for Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez. After all, Gonzalez – better known as the great “Chocolatito” of Nicaragua – had fought Juan Francisco Estrada , Bam’s opponent Saturday night at the Footprint Center in Phoenix , three times and knows him about as well as anybody. “He’s a great champion, a legend of the sport,” Rodriguez said of Gonzalez.

He followed that up with eye-opening TKO wins over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Edwards, earning him a spot on the coveted pound-for-pound list. His opponent Saturday on DAZN , Estrada , will be the most decorated and dangerous foe yet for the southpaw Rodriguez. Estrada, 34, is a two-division world champion competing in his 15th title world championship bout. Estrada won two of the three meetings in his thrilling trilogy with Chocolatito. He went 1-1 in two meetings with Sor Rungvisai.
