Samsung has redefined its clamshell foldable series with the Galaxy Z Flip 5. For years, my biggest let-down with the Z Flip lineup has been its small cover display, especially when compared to the Motorola Razrs. Till the Galaxy Z Flip 4, you had to unfold the phone to actually use it. But that changes with the Flip 5.Samsung has finally added a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED cover screen with a 60Hz refresh rate to the Galaxy Z Flip 5, which changes the way you interact with the phone.
It’s a big upgrade because I don’t have to unfold the Flip 5 to act on a single notification like replying to a WhatsApp text, which mostly leads to me doomscrolling Twitter and checking Instagram and thus wasting a lot of time. You don’t need to swipe through to get to the last widget. With a two finger-pinch, the Flip 5 offers a Multi Widget View that lets you glance and switch between them easily. It’s a smart way to utilize the whole screen.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5’s cover screen also lets you access Samsung Wallet to pay on-the-go and access stuff like QR codes, coupons, boarding passes, membership cards, digital keys and health passes. This is going to be a major use case for me while travelling and showing my boarding pass several times at the airport.
