Salt Lake County weighing options over renovating, rebuilding Abravanel Hall

"I don't think you tear down a cathedral because it gets a little old," Eckstein said. "I think buildings that are special should remain." Wilson expressed her commitment to keeping the venue where it is and as it is. Presenting to the county council, she reiterated this commitment but also acknowledged the need for major improvements.

"It was really heartening to me to see hundreds of people, thousands of people, saying, yes, we care about this building," Wilson said. "Having said that, the point that's been made is every 50 years you're going to have to invest. And we're at that time." According to the master plan report, some of the main concerns with the building include fire suppression not being up to code, non-ADA compliance, and needed upgrades to the acoustics.Steve Brosvik, CEO of the Utah Symphony, said, "The concert hall, the room itself, that blends all of that sound together and creates the sound of an ensemble. . . .
