Salt Lake County Mayor releases statement about future of Abravanel Hall

Salt Lake City, County, and affiliated partners confirmed a possible rebuild of the historic Abravanel Hall due to plans for a reimagined downtown in three developed blocks near the Delta Center . on.I appreciate the extensive amount of input regarding the future of Abravanel Hall as a sports, entertainment, culture, and convention district is envisioned in downtown Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake County is the owner and operator of Abravanel Hall. As Mayor of Salt Lake County, I am working diligently on a reimagined downtown, and a district design that allows Abravanel Hall to remain in its present form and value the feedback from the community.The statement came after developments of an NHL franchise in Utah opened a discussion on expanding and revamping downtown Salt Lake to accommodate for NBA and NHL teams, along with shopping and restaurants.

Revitalization is being planned by officials with Smith Entertainment Group, who own the NHL franchise and the Utah Jazz. SEG submitted a seven-page long proposal for an area of "no more than 100 acres," including blocks east of the Delta Center. The blocks include part of the Salt Palace Convention Center and Abravanel Hall.
