Running out of time: A coalition hoping to save salmon from extinction in our region are launching a new campaign to draw attention, before time slips away.

Time is truly running out when it comes to our state’s threatened and endangered salmon species. For decades, fights around salmon turned ugly, including the continual arrest of Bill Frank Jr., an environmental leader who was arrested more than 50 times on the banks of the Nisqually River for trying to exercise his treaty rights through fishing.

It could also be buying and eating local – or getting vocal about what you’ve learned."To see where it’s at and heading is scary," said Glen Gobin, a Tulalip tribal leader. "If we don’t take the time to step back and really look at what’s going on and start to make changes we need, it’ll all be lost. And it’ll be lost forever."In mid-March, a number of coalition members gathered on the Nisqually River to discuss their new push to garner attention, and motivate change.
