No more trade-offs: Latest scoop on innovation and security for the public sector Sponsored by salesforce

Government agencies had to ensure the continuity of service all while facing multiple crises across healthcare, the economy, equality, and more.Government employees serve the public good in so many ways. They help ensure stimulus and tax return checks arrive in a timely manner. They fast-track child welfare case work. They are responsible for conducting safety inspections and deploying emergency resources during natural disasters, such as snowstorms, wildfires, and hurricanes.

As someone who spent a decade in government, I saw firsthand how the government has some of the brightest minds in the world. However, government innovation sometimes falls short in the face of internal challenges. Outdated and ever-evolving regulations, aging infrastructure, technical debt, and purchasing policies make it difficult for those that serve to deliver quickly and at scale.

One of the toughest aspects to manage is security, especially in the work from anywhere, cloud-driven world. After leading the FedRAMP program at GSA, I know the pain of many government leaders who grapple with the challenges of identifying and adopting secure cloud technologies. In the public sector, data is mission critical. It includes citizen data; tax data; health data; national defense data; and so much more. The importance of security and trust in holding this data is of paramount importance. But many security professionals still struggle with the tradeoff between innovation and security. With Salesforce, government agencies can deliver both while actually delivering the service our constituents need and deserve.

A lot of that work was and still is hard to accomplish. But it doesn’t have to be. Becoming a “yes person” or a “yes team” isn’t about sacrificing security standards. We can leave behind a siloed view and look toward a platform approach that is easy-to-use and out-of-the-box for a single problem or expansion for millions of uses at a single agency.
