'Rust' assistant director was fired from previous movie after gun incident injured crew member

From CNN’s Julia Vargas Jonesover safety and his behavior on set during two productions in 2019, two people who worked closely with Halls tell CNN.

“The only reason the crew was made aware of a weapon's presence was because the assistant prop master demanded Dave acknowledge and announce the situation each day,” Goll’s statement reads. A crew member who also worked in the productions but requested to not be named for fear of retaliation corroborated Goll’s accounts, saying that when Halls did hold safety meetings, they were short and he was dismissive, saying the guns used would be the same as the production always uses, and questioning why they’d have to hold the meetings in the first place.

If you set up your staff by hiring inexperienced or substandard safety professionals and then further tie their hands by unrealistic financial or personnel constraints etc.. then you shouldn’t be able to hide behind “it was his/her job”. Look higher.

Baldwin pulled the trigger, there is a law against pointing real guns at people on movie sets for a reason, he's a murderer and needs to be locked up.

1st AD is the person in charge on set. He's the backbone of the whole production up to the point of hiring 'below the line' crews (and sacking them too). So any decisions and actions made by any of those guys are under his supervision. it's his responsibility.
