The Russian Soyuz rocket was just 20 seconds from taking the astronauts into orbit when the whole thing shut down.

The Soyuz rocket is raised vertical Monday, March 18, 2024, at launch pad Site 31 of the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. found their launch plans suddenly grounded right before liftoff. The Russian Soyuz rocket was just 20 seconds from taking NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson, Russia’s Oleg Novitsky, and Belarusian astronaut Marina Vasilevskaya into orbit when the whole thing shut down.aboard a Soyuz rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Russian space agency Roscosmos spent little time getting to work on this one. Head honcho Yuri Borisov says they’ve already found the problem: a voltage drop in a power source. He’s feeling optimistic, and a second launch attempt is already scheduled for Saturday., though. Just a few years back, a similar launch in 2018 carrying NASA’s Nick Hague and Russia’s Alexei Ovchinin went terribly wrong shortly after liftoff. Those astronauts made a crash landing but were luckily okay.
