The Rotterdam film festival unveils titles for its 50th-anniversary event to be held across the Netherlands from June 2-6.

'The Blue Danube' from Tiger Award-winning Japanese director Ikeda Akira, will have its European premiere at the Rotterdam FestivalThe International Film Festival Rotterdam has unveiled most of the titles for its 50th anniversary event, announcing the features, shorts, and experimental films that will screen across the Netherlands from June 2 through June 6.

Rotterdam is holding a hybrid festival to celebrate its half-century. After an online-only festival for the industry in February, the IFFR is targeting Dutch audiences with its summer event, which plans to feature in-person and on-demand screenings across the country. "As we witness small signs of society gradually opening up, we are incredibly proud to celebrate cinema in June during the closing chapter of our 50th edition," said festival director Vanja Kaludjercic."If cinemas reopen we will be there to welcome audiences to the big screen."

Currently, as in most of Europe, theaters in the Netherlands are shuttered due to the COVID-19 pandemic., a Dubai-set feature from French filmmaker Samuel Doux, the European premiere ofby Japanese director, and former Rotterdam Tiger Award winner Ikeda Akira, , and the Portuguese documentary dramafrom Rotterdam regular Cláudia Varejao, all of which will screen in Rotterdam's main Harbour section.
