Food prices continue to rise due to COVID-19:

. Now, restaurants may be paying the price to have those items sent back their way.

Regardless of the reason, these increased costs will likely force restauranteurs to react. “Generally, if the prices are significantly higher for 30 days or more, restaurants will have to start making decisions,” Davie was quoted as saying. “Those decisions could either involve raising prices or in eliminating the higher-priced items from the menu.”that, as a strange silver lining, reopened restaurants may be more prepared to deal with this issue than they were before.

Meanwhile, the federal government apparently still wants to double-check that these major fluctuations meat prices are on the up and up. Last month, news broke that the USDA and the Department of Justice were

Food left to rot but bad distribution leaves people hungry as food prices rise because of supply chain incompetence

Then the restaurants will be closed permanently

Like anybody can really afford to go out to eat right now. Eating out is a luxury. Not a necessity.

This doesn't make sense. There's less demand for beef. Because of restaurant closures, because of personal finances limiting purchases of more expensive meats. The supply isn't dwindling. This seems to be opportunistic price gouging more than a result of market forces.
