Scott told Maron he was somewhat concerned the Disney-acquired Fox studio would undersell the graphic film, but that was never the case. “Disney did a fantastic promotion job,” Scott said on the podcast. “The bosses loved the movie because I was concerned it was not for them.”“I think what it boils down to — what we’ve got today [are] the audiences who were brought up on these fucking cellphones.
“This is a broad stroke, but I think we’re dealing with it right now with Facebook,” Scott added to Maron. “This is a misdirection that has happened where it’s given the wrong kind of confidence to this latest generation, I think.”and the decision-making process at the studio was solid throughout. “That’s the call you make,” he said of his undertaking the project. “That’s the call Fox made. We all thought it was a terrific script. And we made it. You can’t win all the time. I’ve never had one regret on any movie I’ve ever made. Nothing. I learned very early on to be your own critic. The only thing you should really have an opinion on is what you just did. Walk away. Make sure you’re happy. And don’t look back. That’s me.
That's probably part of the problem, but two big parts are pandemic and enormous gas/grocery hikes. No one trusts being around others in a theater and no one has the money to go to the theater these days.
Aren't the characters supposed to be French? And aren't we supposed to be done with this style of storytelling? I mean, Gladiator was a good film when it was released. But have you seen it recently? Well dated.
Okay, boomer.
…Or maybe the movie had an outmoded plot, was poorly marketed, showcased questionable attempts at accents in the trailer, and audiences said so with their dollars. You didn’t complain about Millennials when they saw The Martian in droves. Sometimes you make a dud, Ridley.
Going to the movies is like $20 per person these days. Forgive me if I'm gonna be choosy about what I see. This didn't look all that interesting to me. He can die mad about it afaic 🤷♀️
Or, the commercials were bad. Why would I want to see a movie about a duel? Ads gave no context.
Wild statement. In a world of millions of things to choose from this just didn’t make the list for many reasons other than generation.
Yeah. Cause it has nothing to do with spending a lot more time promoting House of Gucci, and releasing an under promoted Last Duel right in mid October next to a highly anticipated Halloween sequel and a week before Dune... Damn those cellphone kids!!
OK, the more I hear from this guy, the more I don’t like him. Wow, he’s very rude.
Should have done more marketing on the cellphones
Don't know what the film was like but the trailer and premise were deeply unappealing.
о, смотрю, в каментах тучи обиженных репликой миллениалов и ещё каких-то там -алов, -уморов, и тд))))) Дет попал в самое сердце своей правдой, супер!
i can't disagree with his assessment of millennials but that's not the reason his movie failed.
What would be the lesson taught by TheLastDuel ? What are audiences missing out on?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
So true bestie
Ridley is absolutely correct about this. They also don't care about historical events
My entire theater was millennials but go off
Or maybe they don’t care for Matt Damon…I certainly don’t.🤷🏽♀️
D_Roudra
Maybe it’s the “historical” medieval movie with American accents that put people off? 🤔
