Texas GOP Rep. Michael McCaul on Sunday amped up the pressure on President Joe Biden to make recent ransomware attacks a focus of his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin

06/13/2021 12:01 PM EDTTexas Rep. Michael McCaul on Sunday urged the U.S. to consider “hitting back” at Russia for harboring cyber ransom hackers, amping up the pressure on President Joe Biden to make the recent ransomware attacks a focus of his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“The president needs to demonstrate with Putin, there will be consequences to your actions if you continue to do this,” the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee said on ABC’s “This Week.”"They need to know that — that when they do this, there are consequences to their actions and we're going to hit them back," McCaul added. "Until we do that, they're going to continue with bad behavior.

The U.S. has been hit by a growing number of ransomware attacks, with criminal networks recently taking a major interstate gasoline pipeline and one of the world’s largest meat processors offline. U.S. officials have blamed both attacks on ransomware gangs with ties to Russia. When DarkSide, a ransomware gang based out of Russia, caused the Colonial Pipeline to shut down last month,Biden is expected to broach the attacks in his meeting with Putin on Wednesday in Geneva, Switzerland.

GOP goes all in for businesses. Trump didn't challenge Putin on the elections. And the Russian govt was actually doing the keystrokes. Now they want Biden to challenge them on harboring cyber thieves? They s/b challenged but businesses need to accept some responsibility.

Who the hell cares about this guy? Get the domestic terrorists that undermine our democracy and our nation.

NOW he says this? Where has this dude been for 4.5 years?

McCaul will be receiving a cease and desist call from McCarthy GOPLeader as the call to punish Russia is contrary to Trump's policies. McCaul should be praising Russia and noting how wonderful Poutine is.

Amped up pressure? Are you kidding? At last, the US has a president who is going to put the acid on Putin about cyber attacks and election interference, commercial cyberattacks et al. Where was RepMcCaul when Trump was kowtowing to and doing Putin's bidding?

1st rule of cyber retaliation is don't announce it.

When Putin said he wasn't involved in election tampering and Trump believed him, that was okay with GOP lawmakers. Why don't they believe Putin now? Why is now the time to hit back RepMcCaul? Because election tampering was okay with you?

I don't think McCaul has any ability to 'pressure' Biden to do anything.

Ha. Biden should be arresting the GQPDomesticTerrorists in our country

Rep. Himes: We can’t begin to know the scope of Trump DOJ investigations'We don't begin to know how wide this goes. Rep. Himes: 'This should never happen, and it should never happen with members of the opposition party.'Congressman Jim Himes (D-CT) of the House Intelligence Committee on new calls to subpoena former attorneys general William Barr and Jeff Sessions in connection to the DOJ obtaining the data of two congressional democrats. Shame on those who perpetuated this at the request of Trump. Both Sessos and Barr along with Rosendtein were complicit in this and nothing they say is going to make me believe they didn't know anything. Put them on the stand and let see if they commit perjury. Disbar them. We talk about political consequences if the proverbial shoe were on the other foot. Republicans would be more aggressive and demand accountability. Dems seemingly are impotent at prosecuting the atrocities of the previous four years. Unfortunately for the sake of our democracy. It’s a typical move from a dictator!

GOP congressman says US should 'start thinking about hitting back' at RussiaGOP Rep. Michael McCaul, the top Republican on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, called on the U.S. to 'start thinking about hitting back' at Russia as Pres. Joe Biden prepares for a face-to-face meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. He's a funny guy. A year ago, he thought incursions, bounties, massive hacks of US governmental servers, and outright assaults on our military personnel by Russian entities weren't worthy of comment. What's different now? How'd the other guy hit back?
