Edwin Arroyo #80 of the Cincinnati Reds fields the ball for an out in the second inning during a spring training game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Goodyear Ballpark on March 06, 2024 in Goodyear, Arizona. Shortstop Edwin Arroyo had surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn left labrum in his left shoulder suffered diving back to a base on a pickoff attempt, and Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall told reporters in Arizona he will miss the 2024 season.
The 20-year-old Arroyo was acquired in a trade with the Seattle Mariners along with Noelvi Marte in exchange for pitcher Luis Castillo on July 30, 2022. He played primarily at Class A Dayton last season, although he did appear in four games for Class AA Chattanooga. Arroyo was expected to begin this season with Chattanooga after a strong spring. He was 6-for-17 with three RBI in 11 games.
Arroyo is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the Reds No. 3 prospect and No. 67 overall prospect in Minor League Baseball.
