Rangers 9, Astros 1: Texas takes the series with a blowout

For a third consecutive start, Astros lefthander Framber Valdez began the seventh inning, but this time could not finish it. A leadoff double, shortstop error and a single loaded the bases for Jonah Heim, the only Ranger who had been on base twice in the game.

The Astros loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but managed to score just one run, leading to an eventual 9-1 loss on Sunday in the series finale at Minute Maid Park. It marked the Astros’ first series loss to the Rangers in Houston since a three-game sweep in July 2018., Houston’s offense seemed utterly depleted. The Astros’ one run on Sunday was the fewest they have scored in a game this season.

Rangers starter Andrew Heaney threw five shutout innings. The Astros struck just two hits against him, and did not collect an extra-base hit until Peña’s seventh-inning leadoff double off reliever Brock Burke.
