St. Thomas' Donte Lewis quarterbacked a 35-14 victory over Kinkaid on Friday night as the Eagles remained unbeaten.When Jake Wright graduated from St. Thomas, he left a huge void at the quarterback spot for the Eagles.
It’s difficult to replace that kind of production, but junior transfer Donte Lewis is giving it his best shot. The results are following, and now the Eagles are 5-0 for the first time since 2013. St. Thomas wrapped up its nondistrict schedule with aLewis, who came to St. Thomas from Shadow Creek, is completing 61.6 percent of his throws for 1,217 yards and 17 touchdowns against just four interceptions. He’s also a threat with his legs and has collected 261 yards and four scores on the ground.
Lewis had another strong game against Kinkaid, completing 15-of-20 passes for 235 yards and four touchdowns. He made several plays on the run after being flushed out of the pocket and connected on a pair of perfectly placed deep balls to Shaffer Henderson and Luke Edgecomb, which went for 61 and 63 yards, respectively.“He can do a lot of different things with the football,” McGuire said with a chuckle.
