Director Dan Trachtenberg says the new Predator movie, Prey, draws inspiration from the video game franchise God of War. Before taking on Prey, Trachtenberg previously directed 10 Cloverfield Lane and an episode of The Boys. Prey is written by Patrick Aison, who has worked on the Treadstone and Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan TV shows. The cast of Prey includes Amber Midthunder, Dane DiLiegro, and Stefany Mathias.
God of War is an action-adventure video game franchise that started in 2005 with the first entry in the series. Players take on the role of Kratos, a Spartan warrior who was tricked into murdering his family by the Greek god of war, Ares. The most recent installment, 2018's God of War, sees the series tackling Norse mythology, with Kratos now having his son, Atreus, along for the journey. This iteration of God of War seems to have inspired the production of Prey.
While @corybarlog GOD OF WAR is getting new recognition for its PC release I will pile on that praise and point out— it’s had some influence on PREY.Given that God of War deals with ancient combat, including weapons and styles, it's likely that Prey drew on those aspects, with its setting being long in the past. Prey will also focus on a solitary character battling insurmountable odds, which is something God of War's Kratos is all too familiar with, having taken down the likes of Zeus.
The God of War franchise is slated to get another installment this year with God of War Ragnarok, which picks up after the 2018 installment and continues with Norse mythology. Prey is the first Predator film since 2018's The Predator, which missed with critics and audiences. Prey doesn't have a definitive release date, though it was announced last November that the movie would debut on Hulu this summer.
