The Pacific Northwest will be hit by an unprecedented heat wave this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures are forecast to reach into the triple digits in a part of the country accustomed to mild summers where many don’t have air conditioning. In Portland, Ore., the National Weather Service is predicting highs of 105 on Saturday and 109 on Sunday, which could break the record high of 107 for the city set most recently in 1981.
In Seattle, which has only seen three 100-degree days in over a century, temperatures are expected to rise above the 100 on Sunday. Normally, it is in the 70s this time of year there. To help residents beat the heat, Seattle and Portland are opening air-conditioned cooling centers to the public in libraries, community centers and emergency shelters.
KGW in Portland is now reporting a forecasted high temp for Sunday of 132F.
Al Gore somewhere
I just hope we don’t have a repeat of last year’s forest fires during this heat wave. My family lost everything but my Momma’s house (which did get badly damaged). But in 110+ degree heat? I couldn’t ask firefighters to fight in this
Where MOST don't have air conditioning.
Just light some fires
Seattle and 100F in the same sentence. That is...bizarre. You folks who aren't used to those temperatures and live in apartments or condos should just take the hit and buy a window unit or at the minimum, a fan. Hang out in the basement if it gets too rough in your units.
Still better than living in the Dog Shit Southern States. We can at least go to the rivers and cool off, or lakes. Meanwhile everyone gonna cram their asses out by the overcrowded beaches, or not be able to use water due to droughts like in AZ or CA. PNW is where it’s at. 💦
Portland and Seattle aren’t the only places in our beautiful PNW... Yeah, this isn’t my favorite weather, perhaps we should start living like are habits, consumption and actions have earth-wide consequences. 🌏
I've lived in Western WA for 35 years and can't remember temp at 111. We have air conditioning yet that uncomfortable for many. 😔
With high temperatures predicted in the NW, wacha gonna do antifa? 😂🤣😂🤣
I remember when it got to 80 in Seattle once or twice during the summer. This is extremely disturbing.
