Starbucks will get rid of its straws by 2020, and McDonalds has phased out plastic straws in their UK restaurants, replacing them with paper straws. Over 300 million metric tons of single use plastics — which include plastic bags, cutlery, and yes, straws — are produced annually, and 50% are discarded after a single-use, according to Walker.

Straws are 0.001% of the problem and yet consume 95% of the conversation oxygen.
For goodness sake, if you don't require a straw for medical reasons just give them up. It's a habit not a necessity and give up single use plastic every chance you get.
Take a Twizzler and bite off the ends. There's your straw, and you can eat it when done with your drink.

The small tip of bamboo or rivercane is hollow and makes a perfect straw for all you folks that cant drink from a cup like a big boy yet.
How about all the water bottles .... the same idiot complaining about straws probably buy bottled water!
Maybe, just maybe our time and resources could be better utilized.
The only decent alternative is no straw, which is my preferred option with any drink other than milkshakes.

Organic material that decompose this will be no lucrative for business as organic products have low self lifes however companies can adapt and adopt it as CSR and triple line effort to save the planet.
What about no straws at all? Have we become so useless, that we can't drink without a freaking straw? Unless you have a medical or oral condition that will require straw to help you drink stuff, we can probably survive without them, if not we have a bigger problem.
