FILE - In this Nov. 10, 2018, file photo, the Camp Fire burns along a ridgetop near Big Bend, Calif. Pacific Gas and Electric says it has reached a $13.5 billion settlement that will resolve all major claims related to devastating wildfires blamed on its outdated equipment and negligence. The settlement, which the utility says was reached Friday, Dec. 6, 2019, still requires court approval.
The settlement, which the utility says was reached Friday, still requires court approval. PG&E says it is a key step in leading it out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. “From the beginning of the Chapter 11 process, getting wildfire victims fairly compensated, especially the individuals, has been our primary goal,” Bill Johnson, PG&E Corporation’s CEO and president, said in a statement. “We want to help our customers, our neighbors and our friends in those impacted areas recover and rebuild after these tragic wildfires.”
Friday’s settlement figure responds to pressure from Gov. Gavin Newsom to give wildfire victims more than it originally offered, but it still relies on the bankruptcy judge’s approval as part of the proceedings. A February hearing at which an official estimation of losses will be made still looms for the utility and could upend any settlement deals.
Trumps calls impeachment a good thing
Yet nature and wildlife get $0.00
When is the executive board going to jail?
To our fellow wildfire and shutoff survivors, please volunteer and vote for BernieSanders GreenNewDeal which directly addresses the crisis we're in with Climate Change and PG&E. This is what your vote for Bernie will do for you and your loved ones in CA.
It’s not enough. PGE has literally destroyed the lives of 50K ppl, our mental health, memories, community, jobs, forests, & replaced these with a toxic wasteland. It’s a nightmare that won’t go away. Their board members should endure the same and PGE needs to be broken up
Surprise! Surprise! Thought they were doing everything in their power, (oops. They probably don't have power as 12k of us in Santa Rosa are out of Power again) to avoid tryimg to compensate victims of the horrific fires for which their equipment caused! Won't bring back the dead!
I thought PGE4Me was bankrupt. Where's the $13.5 billion coming from?
It’s interesting to see all the replies! People are pissed and PG&E’s reputation is in the toilet.
The monopoly utility company won’t be paying this settlement; it’ll be passed on to the customers! Until you issue penalty against the personal assets of the board & executive officers, nothing will change.
If you don't like the product you do what? Oh yea sue.
Well some attorneys just got seriously rich. The state and PG&E are corrupt
agrees? wtf.
Woah that's a lot of money
Guess who is going to pay in the end
Yeah it's pathetic you know actually they could be installing solar batteries the whole nine yards or put those cables in pipes like they do in Europe on the ground but profit first right for the CEO
These guys’ stock price is inconceivable. They got sued last year for the last time they burned down California, went bankrupt and stock dropped to like 2$. Now they burn down California again and their stock price is over 9$. How do companies like this keep making money?
I thought climate change was to blame.
Where are the 13.5 billion coming from?
How? They’re bankrupt! Their board and executives should be behind bars!
The people deserve every penny & I hope it reaches them all. Signed, A Nor Cal Fire Survivor
the settlement is going to catch on fire

Why not seek recompense from the unwashed eco warriors for their role in allowing the fires to rage too? BS!! California can’t manage their own state so they need contractors to bail them out.. you can’t count on others forever Cali!!!!! Translation: “California utility customers will pay 13.5 billion to themselves with increased rates but will not be allowed electricity when the wind blows”
