PG&E agrees to pay California wildfire victims $13.5 billion in damages, removing a significant obstacle to its emergence from chapter 11 protection

PG&E Corp. has reached a settlement with victims of the wildfires that pushed California’s largest utility into bankruptcy, agreeing to pay them $13.5 billion in damages.

The pact removes a significant obstacle to PG&E’s emergence from chapter 11 protection, averting fights in two courts over how much the company must pay people who lost loved ones, homes and property to blazes that swept its service territory in recent years.

Why isn’t the State of California bearing some responsibility? Lack of forest management made the land ripe for out of control fires.

Ok, so they’ll just increase the rates they charge everyone living in the cities and then have the money to pay to those who lost their home.

Curious, bonuses to executives?

Lives lost & taxpayers on hook for underperforming quasi-govt. agency. Govt. needs to be forced to privatize services via multiple suppliers (drive accountability & competition) — only works when folks have skin in the game.

$PCG 9.65

So who's campaign finance account is PG&E going to get that kind of money from for the payout?

PGE4Me could have spent less to fix the fucking powerlines to begin with! Shit bags

Who is paying? Has to be the rate payers?
