Flames tore through small businesses, apartment buildings, single-family homes and a block-long warehouse where kerosene and diesel fuel were stored, according to an account in The Star-Ledger at the time.
The cause of the fire was unknown pending an investigation, but it is not believed to be suspicious, said Lora, the mayor.
