Opinion | Why Jesus wouldn't be surprised by polling on Christians and taxes

from August, some of the most popular provisions of Biden's Build Back Better plan among Christians included expanding Medicare to include dental, vision and hearing coverage ; raising wages for home care workers who help with older, injured and disabled patients ; and investing in clean energy infrastructure, like solar panels and wind turbines .

Too often, Christian politics gets reduced to abortion and same-sex marriage. This dynamic has always struck me as odd, since Jesus never talked about those topics. The Gospels do record him consistently, though. Drawing attention to Christian support for raising taxes and increased spending on social programs helps reorient our public discourse to the issues Jesus actually cared about.

THINK Jesus tells Christians to be voluntarily to be charitable. Taxation is a force and not voluntarily. Besides democrats and generally condemn Christians except when they want to manipulate them into their socialist propaganda .

THINK Indeed, as a skilled jesuit theologian reminds us, in over 2,000 years of christian history, never once has any moral issue of such kind been raised into a definition of dogma or even elevated to a definition of doctrine by the wise pastors of the christian synods & councils.

THINK Well said, time to say it, has the world gone mad in republican circles in the Usa? Jesus the lawgiver of so many republicans never once uttered a single word about same sex marriage and terminations of pregnancy, indeed he seemed to favour them both in his pos attitudes to women

THINK only difference between the extreme islam of today like we saw with previous taliban and isis and countries like iran. Islam is 500 years younger than christianity. go back 500 years and look at what christians were doing. not really better.

THINK The actual doctrine of Christianity is just as hardcore as Islam, there's a reason it's 1 of 3 abrahamic religions (christianity, islam, and judaism). Christians have destroyed so many lives and cultures, you MUST admit your atrocities, or I can't listen

THINK sorry.. have you read all of the many ways the Bible says you must live a certain way or else be murdered? The only 'Christians' who are 'tolerant' and not to be lumped in with the others are the ones who IGNORE parts of the doctrine.
