SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Summary One Piece is finally fixing a major Gear Five issue that has been plaguing the series since the very introduction of the transformation. Gear Five's cartoonish antics have sparked divided opinions among fans, who despite their initial excitement, were worried that the series' fights would no longer be nearly as serious anymore.

Close Compared to the manga, the anime certainly draws more attention to these more scary aspects of Gear Five, balancing it with the form's inherent silliness. The latest episode also shuts down any concerns about the future of One Piece's fights, delivering a spectacle beyond anything fans could have ever imagined without feeling like all fun and games.

That said, One Piece's anime has slowly begun to show another side to Gear Five that until now had been overshadowed by its wackiness. Upon rewatch, Gear Five certainly had its terrifying moments even against Kaido, but these are far and few between. Episode #1100, however, brings this split nature of Gear Five to the forefront and shows that One Piece's upcoming fights can still be just as epic and that Luffy can still very much be intimidating, even in his new manic form.

Related Luffy’s Gear 5 Isn’t Just His Strongest Form, It’s a Symbol of What Makes One Piece Such a Unique Series The cartoon-like nature of Luffy's Gear 5 transformation is a perfect embodiment of what makes One Piece so special among Shonen anime. Gear Five's Goofiness is Necessary Gear Five's silly nature helps the series retain the same fun tone it started with, especially as the Final Saga progresses and approaches climactic events.
