First introduced as a secondary character, Marshall D. Teach, the pirate known as Blackbeard, quickly rose through the ranks of the most infamous scoundrels in the world of One Piece. He is responsible for the capture of Ace, the brother of series protagonist Luffy, who is later executed in one of the manga's most emotional scenes.
