truck down Roe v. Wade.
The court ruled that a woman has the right under the state Constitution to receive an abortion to preserve her life if her doctor determines that continuing the pregnancy would endanger it due to a condition she has or is likely to develop during the pregnancy. Previously, the right to an abortion could only take place in the case of medical emergency.
The court, however, declined to rule on whether the state Constitution grants the right to an abortion for other reasons. The court voted 5-4 on the ruling in the lawsuit filed by Planned Parenthood and others challenging the state laws passed after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.“People’s lives have been endangered by Oklahoma’s cruel abortion bans, and now doctors will be able to help pregnant people whose lives they believe are at risk,” Nancy Northup, President and CEO of the Center for Reproductive Rights, said in a statement after the ruling.
bare minimum but we’ll take this win for now
Huge.
When it 'risks their health'? Isn't every pregnancy some amount of risk? And when you consider the fact that more women die every year from botched abortions than they do in childbirth, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose and end up being less risky to just keep it banned?
Put it to a vote of the state and see what happens! Ok rightie legislators are scared because they know the will of the people would be to permit it. Basically, righties are refusing to do what the majority want them to do. ALL republicans have to be voted out.
Women have the right to abortion for most reasons.
Republican Jesus is the worst iteration.
Abortion is still only permitted if the pregnant woman's life is endangered by the pregnancy and the 'mere possibility or speculation is insufficient.' All the court did was strike down the need to wait til the risk to the woman's life constitutes a 'medical emergency.'
Slowly making strides, guys, slowly makin' strides
The ruling was 5-4. That means that four of the justices on the Oklahoma Supreme Court think that the law should require a woman to die rather than get an abortion that would save her life. Take a moment to live with that fact.
All Propaganda
Full circle.

Should we save women’s lives and health? Not sure, send it to the supreme court. Let them decide.

4 O Lord, do good to those who are good, whose hearts are in tune with you. Psalm 125
Satan has brought a lot of evil to the new Democrat party.
YES!!!
Women have the right to an abortion when they are dangers to their health' mental health', that means not one abortion will be stopped in Oklahoma because all an abortion clinic has to do is tell the woman they feel suicidal going forward with this pregnancy. Leftist scam!
Finally, common sense.
Isn’t a health risk a medical emergency and vice versa?
Well that’s a start.
How generous of the justices. OK is still a Southern Republican shithole, and I look forward to many more ob-gyns leaving the state and more fundamentalist Christian women dying from pregnancy complications. 🤣
9+ types of birth control not being a hoe is one of them but keep killing babies you will have a special place in hell. I wish all your moms just swallowed when she had a chance- the world would be a better place.
This is vital. Even if you're diehard prolife, there must be exceptions made for abortions.
and it will be appealed to SCOTUS and get overturned. why do Liberals insist on doing this to themselves?
I agree with this, it's a common sense middle ground approach.
Great
Justice has been removed from the department of. More of a PAC nowadays.
I wonder how long till states Start implementing the death penalty for people who've gotten abortions and if they're going to apply it for people retroactively. Or if they got them in other states.
bdk1521 Now is the time also to bring on board the national medical organizations and health entities to legally guarantee that such requests will NOT be sidelined or denied without cause. Make it possible for women to SUE their state when damages are pending.
Mental health or physical health. There is a difference and some states get around laws by using mental health such as she will suffer great mental health if this pregnancy continues even tho physically there is no problem.
Humans are on the list of things you can’t kill along with eagles and whales and other animals. Gnats are not on that list. This whole abortion centers around when is a human a human and who gets to decide that? We already decided it’s illegal to kill a human so definition please
It’s getting hammered out as it should. It was never going to be a total ban or unfettered access and it was never going to be a federal issue unless you get technical since it is illegal for a mom or doctor to kill another human but we aren’t that deep into it.
Women shouldn't have to fight in court for their health rights because of shortsighted, misogynistic 'pro-life' legislation enacted by Republicans. It's a shame that four OK justices, like GovStitt, think women are just incubators so their health doesn't matter.
Well, wouldn't you provide a procedure such as this for a house pet? (Oklahoma briefly peeks into the light).
Here's the nifty part: EVERY pregnancy risks the health of the woman. So unless the court wants to declare how much risk the pregnancy has to pose to her health, this *should* be a pro-choice ruling. But a doctor and woman willing to go through the litigation to test it.
I wish Tennessee would do this.
Good but must Keep fighting OK!!
Not Surprising... . exc it comes from Red OK . T standard announced is as it was in most states before Roe, w t understanding 'health' included 'mental & emot'l' . A woman had to be exam'd by a mental health practitioner to document t risk, then to a med dr, often sharing offices
Something positive out of OK for a change.
Well, wouldn't you provide a procedure such as this for a house pet? Thank you for peeking (briefly) into the light, Oklahoma.
Pregnant people shouldn't have to qualify for healthcare. The thresholds to qualify for exceptions are so out of reach, it prevents pregnant people from seeking care and medical professionals from doing their jobs. That's the point though, complete subjugation of pregnant people.
Noice
It’s an improvement.
Wow, this is going to piss off the growing number of Republicans who want to execute women for seeking abortions
But but but, Republicans assured us it wasn’t about women’s health…….🙄
Common sense prevails!
Wow, how divine of them
BUT WHAT HURDLES DO YOU HAVE TO PASS TO PROVE YOUR HEALTH IS AT RISK? These exceptions are BS
How many women in that court🙄?
Ot really says something that this ruling only passed by one vote (5-4). This is where we're at - nearly half the population, primarily men in powerful legislative or judicial positions, actually believe that fetal tissue is worth more than a woman's life. Unreal.
Well considering every single pregnancy is a risk to health this is a pretty good compromise!
Not so good of a day for conservatives
Thank goodness someone has common sense
Wow, how considerate of them 🫠
Are they including mental health in this “health”
Courts should rule on issues on a case by case basis. Policy should be made by the legislatures. The word legislature means 'the law writers'. The legislatures are the voice of the electorate who elect the legislatures based on their alignment to the will of their electorate.…
Cool, maybe lawyers can become medical doctors, and codify the whole birthing process?
That's weird. I thought SCOTUS said the states get to decide, not the courts...
It's still a culture where women know men have power over their bodies and lives. No point in living there
This nonsense will be overturned in 3 2 1…
Not good enough. Either there are personhood rights before birth or there aren’t. If there aren’t, then the pregnant person can end any pregnancy for any reason.
A surprise tidbit of mercy from Oklahoma.
A vote for life, the life of a mother
At least there's that.
women voting republican is like Jews voting for the nazis
It's something dot jaypeg
Good to hear. Id... I'd think the mothers life would count as a medical emergency.
SofiaResnick Ayo Arkansas attorneys step up🗽
How magnanimous of them?
How many deaths did it take? Are they getting a memorial ? Women are your blood sacrifice SarahHuckabee
Nope, not accurate. try again.
Ladies of Oklahoma, vote for your rights!
How would it risk their health and not be a medical concern?
Are we including mental health now?🙄
Peanuts.
Trump on Pearl Street right now
