that threatened shopping centers and damaged a house in Oceanside was 100 percent contained Tuesday after firefighters doused hot spots a day earlier, fire officials said. The fire started about 2:25 p.m. Sunday on the edge of a marshy wetland known as Talone Lake, near Frazee Road and Mission Avenue.Homeless encampments are known to pop up in the area, and investigators believe someone ignited the fire, although it was undetermined whether the act was intentional, officials said.
Firefighters contained the fire, then noticed a second fire a short distance away. Thick brush made it hard for crews to reach the fire, which spread quickly, officials said.Embers and heat in the air caused damage to a home on Mosaic Circle and a cardboard storage bin behind the Walmart off College Boulevard, officials said.
A Cal Fire helicopter made water drops to assist firefighters on the ground. Crews stopped the fire’s spread about two and a half hours later. By late Sunday night, the fire was 60 percent contained.
