I think it only becomes problematic when the actors are playing Jewish to the point of caricature. If your whole performance of a Jewish character is predicated on a nasal voice, over the top gesticulation and questionable make up choices maybe that isn't the role for a gentile.

I feel like the point that they're trying to make here is that people who've grown up in a culture are going to know more of the small details and mannerisms and just more in general than someone who didn't. You're more familiar with identifiers specific to the community.

it’s not complicated. actors play roles/characters. that is the talent and the art of acting. is segregation really a good idea? should we start counting how many times jewish actors played (emphatically!) non-jewish characters, too?
Not unusual for Hollywood. Non Native American actors played native Americans. Examples-The Searchers(scar was played by a German actor), Anthony Quinn played several Native American characters, etc.

Isn’t the point of acting is to play someone you aren’t. I agree with not coloring the skin. Do you have to have actors who naturally have the hair color, who naturally have curly hair, who naturally have an accent? Where is the line here?

Should a non-religious person play a person of a religion they don't subscribe to or practice; or should a person of one religion play a role of a character of a different faith. That's called acting. You portray someone you're not.
