With Trump barred from Twitter, the Supreme Court declined to hear a case on whether his blocking people there violated their rights. Justice Thomas used his dissent to make a different argument: That social networks should be regulated like utilities.

A blight on African Americans.

What happened to small government? Isn’t that part of the GOP platform anymore?

🤣 This man also has issues with voting rights.

Keep!!! him off 4 ever!!!!

Great argument. Their collective and total shutdown of Parler really proved its time for regulation

Then social media networks will simply move to Texas!

I still check my Coke for pubic hairs. Fuck that old fuck.

Yeah, Originalism...

Justice Thomas makes it clear, to me at least, the “Official” entities on Twitter are not acting as agents of the US Government because the US Government cannot legally control Twitter. This had been a policy in the US Military years ago. No idea when things changed.

As always Thomas is in over his head - this is what happens when traffic court judges are appointed to the Supreme Court

The argument for trump would be in anti-discrimination laws to allow him to join in social media. For complete denial of access without warning or cause would be discrimination to his political platform or whatever he represents. No landmark case to control internet.

Lol, interest words but such thing could be simple. Social media is like editorial in a newspaper 📰. And the platform (FB , Twitter etc)or company has the right to act accordingly as they see fit in terms of freedom of expression and information.

Except, of course, if you continued to break the rules of how you use those services say like driving that highway the you could avoid, your license will be suspended or revoked. Which is what happened and should have happened sooner. So really, what’s the difference.

Worst justice ever?

Maybe he’s long overdue for retirement. He clearly doesn’t understand what a “utility” is or what “basic rights” are. Time for him to go:

'That social networks should be regulated like utilities.' That's a retarded idea particularly for a Supreme Court Justice.

That’s his area of expertise? Legislation from the bench?

Gosh, regulating social media kinda sorta makes sense. Have to read Thomas's dissent.

Not a bad argument

How stupid of him.

Do people need social media? (How many of us know people not on, at least, one social media platform?)

As soon as EVERYONE has access to broadband and INTERNET becomes a utility, then we can circle back to social media, Clarence. priorities Also, tell your wife to stop supporting insurrection against the US government.

So social media companies that rely on the internet are utilities, but internet providers that allow access to the social media aren’t. 🤔

Social media is a non essential business Justice Thomas. BIG DIFFERENCE. NO ONE, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE NEEDS IT.

Justice CORRUPT THOMAS needs to SCOTUS thomas

Of course the radical Left hates this idea b/c they LOVE to suppress conservative free speech that actually offends their snowflake senses:)

Amen! Screw Twitter and their attempts to shut down certain voices online. Jack Dorsey, we warned you, but you thought you could control America. In the end, America will control YOU.

Didn’t his wife donate to the capital insurrection ppl😂 America is so f****d rn🤣

Justice Thomas, social media is not an f'n utility. You do not need it to survive or is it a necessary communication device that could be the difference between life and death. Water is a utility, electricity is because of weather and food/medical products. Cable TV isn't.

Uncle Thomas

This man is exactly correct.

Wild considering his wife used social media to fund a government overthrow. LincolnsBible ericgarland LouiseMensch JamesFourM Tru7hS33kR

Let the government reign on social media! What a small government that conservatives pursue.

I WOULDNT SAY THEY SHOULD BE REGULATED, BUT UNLESS YOU ARE SAYING SOMETHING THAT LEADS TO ILLEGALITY, THEY SHOULDNT POLICE SPEECH.

Really...We regulate utilities to prevent gouging and needless costly overlap. How doe having more than one outlet for social discourse on the Internet come even close. No one in their right mind would suggest that newspapers are a public utility.

Funny how Republicans hate regulation, until they don't.

If glorifying violence is a good reason to be banned off Twitter then a bunch of people’s account she start getting banned ASAP. Starting with the most influential person.

Like utilities in Texas?

Did anyone ask him?

Why is it always the conservatives that push socialism. It’s like the nazis ... always pushing democracy.

The nuance lost amidst the back & forth low IQ dunking is the Public Square debate. Part of which is...If the vast majority of civic debate is done on privately owned social media platforms, what responsibility should those platforms have to ensure free & fair public 1A access?

From the same people who raise hell about people on welfare getting a mobile phone as a “benefit” because they don’t consider it a “utility.”

This just tells you that Justice Thomas doesn't know what social networks are and what their purpose is. That is assuming he knows what constitutes 'utilities' but I may be wrong.

johndav60304165 Something is wrong with his brain.

Don’t businesses have the right to refuse anyone?

Not a Thomas fan at all.

I am truly waiting for the day (hoping within the year 2021) that SCOTUS JusticeClarenceThomas retires because he is worthless, along with JusticeSamuelAlito. I know the other 3 Mouseketeers aka Trump’s judges are unlikely to leave soon.

Justice Thomas is ignorant of technology; not much smarter when it comes to trump who used Twitter to get around traditional means of communication (he could remain 'unfiltered'). Any public communications from the President should be public whether he likes the response or not.

...and Justices and their wives should stay out of politics. SCOTUS CNN

Does this include lies and propaganda and disinformation and misinformation If so ,the Qpublicans won't be saying anything at all on social media networks.

The Supreme Court, calculating that Biden doesn't abuse Twitter, so it's unlikely he will block troll accounts, are leaving the field open for the next Twitter clown.

So regulate speech but not guns

Wait till he reads those Apple terms and conditions 😂😂

Totally disagree .. he uses social media for horrible purposes perpetuating lies. It has been wonderful having him silent on social media. Everything he does is either out of narcissism or just my being vile

New month !!! bonus !!! Only 30 serious person's needed 💱 Work from home with your smartphone and start earning $7,200 every 3days and $16,600 weekly Ask me How No hidden fee No Charges involved No Scam Only serious minded person's WhatsApp number +1(978) 415-9074

Too funny.

The specifics of Justice Thomas are not fully spelt out to understand his perspectives..I'm wondering why public utilities aren't made to enjoy para-public corporate status (partly owned & supervised by state in distinction from private for profit autonomy?

And he is right

Wow, thay hate gummint regulation out on the fringe unless they have ideological hatred of the companies

Thank you Justice Thomas. Very wise.

multi-move and an attempt to destroy the Masonic lodge

Genius totally up on social media justice would regulate what exactly?

Social networks don’t provide light or power or water that are essential for human life. They’rsimply businesses or voluntary organizations that provide a nonessential place for people to voluntarily yak online. If you’re a 1A advocate, regulating social networks is an anathema.

'A CNBC analysis of President Trump's tweets since he was inaugurated found that his most popular and frequent posts largely spread disinformation and distrust.'

Great. Now let's regulate all the hate speech from conservatives. Lol

So the content on the internet can be classified as a common carrier but the wires that transmit it cannot? Right wing logic is wacky

Every time.

Montana is trying to have social media regulated by PSC.

Sorry, but we paid for that account, that official account. It is ours, as is the White House.

It’s high time for Thomas to retire. He should not been on the SC anyway. Maybe he can be impeached for lying about AnitaHill. We have not forgotten

Justice Thomas who paid for buses to the insurrection and then said it was ok because he believed qanon?

wonder when Thomas will finally depart

Corrupt, politically-biased SupremeCourt justices, especially ones unethically appointed, or married to an insurrection supporter ... they need be regulated, by we the people.

“Regulation is always bad, except when it benefits Republicans.” - Republicans

Justice Clarence I still remember the coke can, perhaps you should be one justice who keeps his mouth shut

I can't live w/o my water utility. I can live w/o Facebook. Social networks are NOT utilities.

Ginny-insurrection. AP CNN washingtonpost USATODAY FBI

Am I wrong in thinking that trying this, answering this question, would be a forward looking action. 🤔 If I didn't want to be bothered by someone's crap, I would just unfollow or mute. It would save a lot of hot words. 🔥

I think Thomas in an effort to make a name for himself... has done just that, just not how he expected it...

Who defines what a social network is? I have a profile on many news sites. The comment section is now in play for regulation.

Thomas needs to retire, out here wanting to make social media utilities while also being an originalist

A reminder Justice Thomas....

I wonder if there were something like Net Neutrality that basically did this that the Trump admin destroyed lol

Thomas' wife continues to be heard on the Supreme court.

No one has a right to social media. It's not a protected essential right. Social media shouldn't be treated like drinking water.

This is bad news for Parler

Internet access should be a utility. Social media, however, is a business. They shouldn’t be forced to be a megaphone for anyone’s hate speech. Clarence Thomas is a ding dong.

When will the FBI arrest 'Justice' Thomas' wife for her part in the insurrection?

Lmao we don't even regulate utilities like we're supposed to

😏 After Ginni explained what she would cut off....

'Dear Mr. tRump, please read this dissent as a plea bargain to not tell folks how much my wife was involved in the 01.06.21 sedition attempt.'

A hearing would illuminate hypocrisy, no?

Justice Thomas should NOT be on the bench, and most certainly should NOT be opining any anything related to Trump. GinniThomas worked to organize Jan 6th for and with Trump. ChiefJusticeJohnRoberts needs to stop this.

Can we please stop letting people born in the 40s regulate the internet?

If social networks should be regulated, so should broadcast media. Let's go to Clarence Thomas for comment on regulating FOX and Newsmax... Clarence? Clarence? I think we lost the feed.

Internet access should be treated like a utility, and a right. Social media is a private business

Unless that utility company is in Texas

Crap I agree with Thomas.

How come whenever progressives wanted to regulate the internet like utilities, the GOP screamed 'socialism'? But what when it affects Adolf Twittler, it's all of a sudden a great idea?

So should the internet they use

Opposition is getting weaker !!!! 🙏🙏

Do it like Texas

Agreed. Regulate the living daylights out of Facebook and Twitter

Is social network a utility? If it’s not a basic human right, I don’t see why it should be regulated like one

People need a little more good news now.

conservatives aren't against regulations, they just want to pick and chose what to regulate

Small government conservatives. Haha
