This is considered a crisis in Canada. Which is why I want to move to Canada.

They’ll be ok we have a money not spreading issue here in America

ThePME timanderson87

HELP! Writing from Calgary, good friend of Julie’s. Looking for tearsheet of this article or ‘hard copy’ paper. This is her first big international story and want to surprise her with a gift. Pls message.Ty from 🇨🇦🍁.

PeachesJenkins4 A perfect example of how sometimes a 'conspiracy theory' isn't just a theory. Palm Oil is & has always been a staple item in the diets of West Africans. It was used to make literal tons of clean burning wax candles to light European palaces during the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade.

somebody get the butter man on the case! TheShowThor TheShowEddie

anthonycwalker you need to weigh in on this

Wait... This isn't the onion...

timanderson87 ThePME gfienberg17

I have noticed that also in made our own store bought doesn't taste like butter anymore

prime content

“Why were you late for your vaccine appointment?” “Butter’s hard.”

This is some first world problem vibes if I’ve ever seen them.

KattDaddy15 lydon_nick

These people are feeling margarine-alized.

Now THIS is a Serious problem 😂

The horror!

Leonna8773 My husband was upset that NPR did a story on Canadian butter. This is a CBC story. 🤪

Waiting for brittlestar to weigh in on this serious matter...🤔

I came here for the comments and I am not disappointed😂

These are the real issues. Few things get me more flustered than butter not spreading easily.

I wish America had so few issues that something like this, and officers arresting a seal, were the big ticket news items of the day.

mmm maybe people are setting their thermostats lower, I wonder if there is an issues south of 20N

Doesn’t matter. Just slice off little pats of butter and cover the bread with them and then microwave for a few seconds. Allow to cool just bit - could be too hot at first. Oh, yes, then apply honey, jelly/jam, brown sugar, etc. to taste.

I wish America had so few issues that something like this, and officers arresting a seal, were the big ticket news items if the day.

Is this a joke tweet?

As a Canadian I must thank you for solving an unpleasant mystery. I started having reliable baking recipes go very wrong which is how I knew something was up. On the upside, I learned it's really easy to make your own butter.

We’d butter get down to the bottom of this

misterbumface true? Or not?!1

Problems that Canadian face...

This is so Canadian...with your universal healthcare & the pandemic under control and all, so that y’all have time to worry about your butter. Best wishes from your embarrassing neighbors!

& this is news worthy👎👎👎

Could the cold weather have something 2 do with it🤔

At first I read the title and thought how much I look forward to this being the only kind if news we see and then I read the reason why. *sigh*

Everything is a rich man's trick.

Thought it was just my imagination. If Palm oil and derivatives in cattle feed are the cause we should stop it. We don’t need more butter at the cost of the environment. I’d rather orangutans had a place to live & the butter on my toast was a little thinner and easier to spread

I’m a Michigan resident and I noticed this too. I’m going to pay more attention to brands.

Yikes! Butter variants spreading in Canada! Or apparently not spreading.

Big Butter can’t be trusted.

Wish this was the only issue we had to deal with in the US!

Canadian chicks on the other hand have been spreading much faster in my opinion.

Imagine living in a place so perfect that you complaints about butter are newsworthy

Now we know why it was “Last Tango in Paris” and not “Last Tango in Toronto,” alliteration be damned! GetTheButter

Quiet week huh?

I want these Canadian problems!

'If you think it's butter, but it's not....'

Jesus really?! This is news? Omg first world problems.

Actually I have noticed this and have been quite annoyed the last year or so.

MaryAnnDee14 hard flat butter.

First world problem, tell it to a homeless person....

🚨 BREAKING NEWS !!! 🙄

Margarine spreads better

Ty for this story. I needed this 💕

is trying to take on TheOnion

I *wish* we could have a day where our biggest problem was the butter not spreading like it used to.

alexsarian Keep palm oil out of our butter please.

How are people not appreciating how shitty this is? Soft butter is too good.

Dear dairy

I thought this was TheOnion

Now that's news I want to read about.

Canada? Who cares...

It's happening here too! It's been very hard in the winter and lately getting very soft in the summer, almost melting oil. What the heck. Only two nice butter seasons now spring and fall ButterGate

Buttergate

Kerry gold for the win.

We should be able to import dairy products from Europe. The food in Canada is garbage. Just look at the farmers market. They sell fruits and vegetables that are grown in other countries and claim its local. People are so dumb here, even thou it has a sticker that says Mexico.

Got one of these in my Christmas stocking.

That’s horrible. I bet even the organic butter has palm oil as well. Garbage

I wonder if this is somehow connected to those butter scraper/spreader knives I saw ads for all over the place

Before I saw it is NPR, I would have bet money this was an Onion story.

This article is asinine. Simply run a fatty acid profile of dairy milk to determine which fat is the culprit. One day lab experiment. 'My car won't run.. it may be out of gas. There must be a way to check...' - dear Lord.

Finally, real journalism

I haven’t read the article, I’m just here to thank everyone for the comments, this thread is 🔥. 😂

This is an udderly silly article. buttergate

The Onion reported on this last year.

What is with this hard butter?!?

I'd much rather read about this than another political article rn.

it's here too and ruining my cakes. and there are health implications with the use of palm oil fats, so it's not a joke, NPR.

No we're not its cuz of climatechange, duh!

This is a hoot! Actually isn’t palm oil used in peanut butter? I don’t think it’s an unknown quantity.

Hard butter, ay?

The fucking worst!!

'Hard butter'? Is this Canadian porn? I will absolutely mute somebody.

Canada has angered an imaginative wizard or a very minor god.

The people in the replies annoyed that stories also get published about things that *aren't* the MOST SERIOUS NEWS are probably going to HATE the CBC's piece.

Glad to see someone is having a good day. 😂

My mom has complained about this literally ALL week! Can we get the Gop to start a Conspiracy Theory?

Canadian problems.

so these are the types of problems Canadians have

Buttergate

Is it being made differently?

Margarine-al news...

The terrorists have won...

Butter emails!

about god damn time someones talking about this

Slow news day?

they will just write articles about anything man

I didn’t know Canada had butter.

That's why people nowadays don't understand Last Tango In Paris.

The people who wrote this not only went to college, but take themselves very seriously.

I’ve noticed this too!!

Canadians have the best problems

This week on ‘As The World Churns’

Was this stolen from the onion or something?

I thought this was the Onion. 🤣

Can we just nuke Canada to glass already?

This is NOT something people are concerned about.

NPR is so dumb.

Siri. What’s a white peoples problem?
