The laws mandate that grocery stores cover the pay hike, which expires after 120 days, and only apply to companies with at least 300 employees nationwide. Proponents of the raise, which include local unions, argue grocery workers are risking their health to keep Americans fed, and that large grocery chains have reaped in massive profits during the pandemic without sharing them with front-line workers.
