President Trump has gone back-and-forth on the issue of new background checks on gun purchases, and now says he could support some — while also acknowledging that he's talking with the NRA on the issue.

2/2 I'm in ministry...if you're going to work with children or youth in any capacity, you're going to have a background check. Mine is not the only field to require them. Nothing to hide? Then the check shouldn't be an issue.

I don't understand the recalcitrance over background checks to purchase a gun. Seems like a logical step. Perfect? No. Will it help with growing issue with gun violence? 1/2

If the NRA is known for anything, it’s listening to well reasoned arguments so I’m sure progress will be made.

He’s not gonna do shit

The Manchurian Candidate

I guess you’re not going to cover the news where Trump is dissolving all student loan debt for disabled veterans, huh? No way to spin that into bad news, so let’s just completely ignore it, right?

Donald 'Waffles' trumpo!

Well, causing chaos, uncertainty, and harm ARE the things he enjoys most.

When did the NRA become a member of the cabinet of advisors? NRAownsGOP

For a person who supposedly ran his own businesses for decades, President Thinskin sure understands checking with the owners before committing to a course of action.

Glad he is detailing this. No mention of CRIMINALS from NPR, LA, Chicago, ILLEGAL MIGRANT smugglers or American gangsters. Way to go ... NPR

A new breakfast sensation... trumpwaffles

I’m so confused? Why does the NRA have a say in the matter? We should give big pharma a say on prescription drug costs and ask the fossil fuel industry for their opinion on climate change. Oh wait.......

Why would anyone even pretend anything will change. Trump sucks up to the NRA and Republicans suck up to Trump. A few people are deciding if your children will be killed when they walk out the door

Isn't it to bad you don't get to take our guns.

What's up with the tie 👔 did he mug a clown?

Parents will recognize this as the 'lie to everyone' phase of adolescence. Too bad he's an adult with the responsibilities of the presidency.

NPR = Charlie Brown kicking air. Pathetic.

THE NRA DOES NOT HAVE A SAY IN THIS!!!

Hope about he maybe talks to some victims families instead of the NRA and see how they feel about this issue

seems like a background check (including tax returns to show who you work for) should be required to have the codes to a nuclear weapon too. realDonaldTrump NRA

LOLOLOL Donnie “take a dip in the syph” Drump

They do represent one side of the issue. I expect that he will be meeting with a representative of the other side as well. Seems logical.

It's Trump. Could he be shaking down the NRA for more cash or to funnel cash from foreign sources to his campaign? Trump cannot actually change gun laws without losing a significant part of his dwindling base.

Criminals don't give a fuck about a background check they buy guns off the black market.

NRAownsGOP GunControlNow

Trump always winds up doing what the NRA and Putin tell him to.

Does the NRA have time to consult on this? Don't they have mansions to buy for Wayne LaPierre and DC condos to rent for one intern?

Pathetic.

What’s the point of this?

Brilliant!

His words don’t matter. You know this. I know this. We all know this.

NPR Choice pageSuch laws already exist nationwide: involuntary commitment. If someone doesn't rise to the level of involuntary commitment, and they've broken no laws, but people still want to take away their civil liberties, that's just cruel. Why can’t Congress simply “limit high-capacity Magazines” to 10 rounds per clip, thus forcing Mass Murderers to reload more often, at least slowing their kill totals? Can anyone argue potential 100 round magazines are necessary? SenFeinstein GunReformNow Well they're unconstitutional so....
