Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Psych actor Jimmi Simpson, who played Mary Lightly in the hit series, has given an update on the possibility of his character returning for the upcoming Psych 4 movie. The detective comedy-drama series premiered on July 7, 2006, and ran for a total of eight seasons and 120 episodes, with the series finale airing on March 26, 2014.

During an exclusive interview with ScreenRant's Caitlin Tyrrell to discuss the upcoming Apple TV+ sci-fi show Dark Matter, which is due to premiere on May 8, 2024, Simpson was asked about the chances of him returning for Psych 4, and, though he seemed to rule it out, he did leave the door open for his character to return in future installments, mentioning how co-star and producer James Roday is always coming to him with new ideas, and that he finds them exciting.

Is There A Future For More Psych Movies, & How Likely Is It That Simpson Will Be Involved? As a very successful and popular franchise, there is plenty of scope for Psych to spawn more movies, with a rumored three additional films in the works. Whilst ranking the Psych seasons and movies will differ from person to person, it seems clear that the franchise has continued to be a success despite the show ending a decade ago.

The appeal of the franchise is such that there could be many more movies made in the future, and, with the number of guest stars who spoofed their past roles on Psych, there is still creative appeal for big stars to want to be involved in the franchise. Whilst the storyline for the upcoming movie is under wraps right now, there is a good chance that some missing Psych characters could appear in Psych 4, and this provides a fun chance for exploring new storylines, and linking back to past ones.

Psych Shawn Spencer happens to possess some uncanny powers of observation thanks to his father, Henry, a former police officer who taught his son to remember even the smallest details of his surroundings. When Shawn is accused of committing a crime that he actually solved, he convinces the cops that he's a psychic -- and with the reluctant help of his best friend, Gus, Shawn starts solving cases for a skeptical but increasingly impressed police force.
