It's one year since the first law passed banning natural hair discrimination.

led the charge in introducing and playing a key role in getting the bill passed in California. Since then, laws have also been passed in New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Colorado, Washington and Maryland in addition to municipalities in Cincinnati as well as Montgomery County, Maryland.Twenty-three states have introduced CROWN legislation including Georgia, Florida and Arizona.

"When the governor signed SB 188, the CROWN Act into law one year ago today, I joked that July 3rd would become our true Independence Day, the day our natural hair was freed from oppressive workplace dress codes," Mitchell told"Good Morning America.""Acknowledging that our hair and its natural texture is a race-based trait was an important addition to the body of law aimed at securing equal treatment and equal protection for all.

"Until Congress is able to recognize that the quality of my work as an employee or student is based on what's inside my head and not how I choose to wear my hair, we will continue the state-by-state strategy to pass the CROWN Act in every state in our nation." In December 2019, Sen. Cory Booker and Rep. Cedric Richmond, a Democrat who represents Louisiana's 2nd District, introduced the first federal bill to ban natural hair discrimination.

Unbelievable that this has only been in effect for a year.

Beautiful!! What’s you opinion on Biden being the architect of mass incarceration of people of color for Reagen and the Clintons The biggest enslavement since the 1800s.... oh and his thoughts against LBGT Can’t be married or in the military 🤦‍♂️

The fact that there is a law for this is just ridiculous. Welcome to America the home of racism and discrimination!

It’s about goddamn time the remaining 43 stop the crap and get on with it.

🤣😂🤣😂 I've been natural for years. Your just being stupid now.

Oregon OregonGovBrown has not passed a law barring discrimination based on hair. CROWNAct Let’s get this done Kate

How peculiar.

I have never heard of someone discriminated because of hair. Was this really a thing? Nobody cares what you do with your hair am I missing something?

Haha so stupid! I

Hmm who signed that law into effect

✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼

How’d all that go? There are girls at my work talking about it and I could never figure out the difference, just that they change their hair a lot.

Does this mean women can no longer reject me because I’m bald?

Are medical workers, cooks, machine operators and other profession, now allowed dangerous, unruly 'natural hair?

It’s really really sad that this actually has to be a law.

Doesn't that seem so unreal? Why a year ago, why it took over 100 years to walk such a small step. Why wasn't it done in the 1800s, so much suffering could have been avoided Passed by Congress on January 31, 1865, the 13th amendment abolished slavery in the United States.

What is wrong with your company?

WTH?!?! 😂 'News' is a parody.

Seriously.. has to be because the Democrats needed to have a narrative at sometime..ridiculous..like their lynching legislation.. something that hasn't been thought of in years.. and now all of sudden.. really.... please tell us more stupid stuff that doesn't exist

It's also 4th of July, but ABC only cares about race-baiting.

With all the issues happening in Th country, hair style is not my concern!

Does a day go by where you don't post about race?

LOL SO FING RIDICULOUS MSM

Batshit crazy! Leftists have gone insane!

You people never stop, do you?

I didn't know this was an issue. Now I know. Thanks

Vietnam war dodger crook, Crafty, cunning and yet a Clueless Covfefe needs a miracle to win & miracles are hard to come by Joe Biden holds a whopping 12% lead Shed red Go blue Anyway, 124 more days 2 go B4 the fat lady sings on Nov the 4th Happy 4th

Does anybody know anybody who was penalized for their hair? (Outside of military or work uniforms)

POC wearing straight hair is appropriation!!!

remember we did this story together natalieerice

Me erry day ... give me a break with all this shit ... if you want big hair then have big hair .. who gives a fuk

If all Humans Dress their Natural Hair and see the Natural Beauty we behold. We could SHUT DOWN ALL BEAUTY SHOPS? Beauticians will be on buses and not driving Mercedes Benz S Class, along with pull out or hair to replace it with FACK HAIR?

It’s a damn shame that a law “legalizing” natural Black hair ... was even necessary 🤨

We've had laws for decades banning race discrimination, and look where we are.

What about cultural hair appropriation? Black people don't have natural strait hair.

Your Actually telling me This is Fckng Real And there Was this Huge Racist Movement Against Hair Im Sorry but Black Women in my Opinion are by FAR the most Gorgeous and Beautiful women in the world! Perhaps my reason is selfish why I hate Media And left trying to start Race war?

I'm embarassed for anyone who contributed to passing such an idiotic law.

Hahaha...laws about hair style.

Good everyone can stop using blonde wigs?

Now do jobs report.

Do we need a law for every kind of discrimination? I'm going to start discriminating against people whose index finger is longer than their ring finger. Technically, there's no law against that yet.

It's the silliest thing ever to even have to pass a law such as this. You can't change how you were born! Oh...I forget some do and it's not just hair...

Idc if it’s natural it’s a f!cking birds nest

Problem is: define “Natural Hair”_

discrimination of hair? I lack the words to describe how idiotic it is.

What a stupid law! We have many just as worthless!

This is very relevant:

Would this include how one chooses to style their hair?

Employers have the right to dictate appearance standards-this law is not needed

The fact that such law even existed makes my skin crawl! I have permed my hair so many times trying to get that exact right curly look and never understood why women with gorgeous kinky curls ever straightened their hair!!! I feel ashamed not knowing this!

Corn row and dreadlocks are no more natural than purple hair and mowhawks. Yes those aren’t natural but examples shown. There do not have to be new laws for this - existing protection a apply. Creating them is just grandstanding.
