A new study finds DART's impact could be stronger than expected.

DART will impact Dimorphos at around 4.1 miles per second , or 14,760 mph , which mission scientists hope will cause the moonlet's orbital speed to change by a fraction of a millimeter per second, just enough to alter its orbit around the larger asteroid.

This new model suggests that the DART mission could eject more material from Dimorphos than expected, and potentially alter its course much more strongly than in previous estimates.

Don’t you watch The Expanse? You send a star trooper to explode it🤣

'Deflect'? Hmmm, how's that work

Have we proven that we can actually deflect asteroids yet?

So what is the big deal? We do much much worse every single day to the sole living environment that we depend on to survive. With major luck the moonlet could become a mass extinction event that solves the Earth's human infection.

you'd have to be a moonlet to believe it!
