New York county lawmakers pass contentious bill allowing police to sue protesters for harassment.

Nassau police officers surround a man taking part in a Black Lives Matter march in East Meadow, N.Y., on June 12, 2020.County lawmakers in New York approved a bill Monday allowing police officers and other first responders to sue people who harass them because of their profession.

The vote came after hours of often-heated public comments, including from police union officials and NAACP members. “What you are doing with this bill is you are taking this profession and you are putting that chosen profession above all of those people who fought during the Civil Rights movement,” she said.

But neither union officials nor the legislative text cite specific examples from Nassau County, which is outside New York City on Long Island.

So then only rich people with lawyers can protest anything. Hmmmmmmmm

Turnabout is fair play. You've got some crazy person screaming and spitting at you...sounds like a case for PTSD over time...

America steadily diving off that cliff

Great news.

When can protesters sue police personally for being violent animals?

Wow, what a great gig. You get to kill anyone you want AND sue them for saying disrespectful things to you? No wonder so many white men go into law enforcement.

Good luck with that. Suing a bunch of poor people ain't gonna pay shit.

“Contentious” is an odd choice. Try “ACAB”

And does the bill allow protesters to sue the police for abuse & harassment, too? A right for one is a right for all.

nassau county sucks always has they are stuck in the 1950s

Light detected behind a black hole for the first timeFor the first time, scientists have detected light from behind a black hole, and it fulfills a prediction rooted in Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity. Well, if we're on one side, something is probably on the other side. Some things are best left alone because we don't know what might happen if we try and go beyond our limits Wouldn't it be something if it turns out we are just living on one of the electrons that are orbiting an atom?
