Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is seeking to speed up consideration of the nearly $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure package, urging votes on amendments. GOP senators caution that they need time to digest the 2,700-page bill.

Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio, a Republican negotiator, framed the legislation as something that would help the U.S. better compete with China and would make the “economy more efficient, more productive” after years of struggle getting a public works bill off the ground. As the amendment process gets underway, senators are weighing how much to try to change the package and how hard to try, knowing it will be difficult to reach the 60-vote threshold to approve any substantial changes.

that would allow the Senate to begin work later this year on a massive, $3.5 trillion social, health and environmental bill.“We shouldn’t sacrifice adequate time on this bill merely because the Democratic leader would like to spend next week jamming a 100% partisan piece of legislation through the United States Senate,” said Sen. John Thune of South Dakota.

Paying for the package has been a challenge after senators rejected ideas to raise revenue from a new gas tax or other streams. Instead, it is being financed from funding sources that might not pass muster with deficit hawks, including repurposing some $205 billion in untapped COVID-19 relief aid, as well as unemployment assistance that was turned back by some states and relying on projected future economic growth.

Last week, 17 GOP senators joined all Democrats in voting to start work on the bill. That support largely held, with McConnell voting yes in another procedural vote to nudge the process along in the 50-50 Senate, where 60 votes are needed to overcome a filibuster and advance legislation.in the days ahead will determine if the president’s signature issue can make it across the finish line.

McConnell didn't give time to read the tax bill. Call for a vote, Schumer.

They'll digest it and shit out a big 'no'.

...urging votes on amendments. GOP senators are fucking around to slow it down as much as possible.

This is pathetic. They’re going to run out the clock. We’ve all seen this coming. Pathetic.

Sick of this pass to see what’s in it garbage! Every bill should have a freeze period that allows ample time to read it

don't. trust. Republicans.

Yeah bash it thru before anyone has any hope of reading it or maybe figure out the shenanigans hidden in it !

How long does Chuck think it takes to review 2700 pages?

Sarah Palin hints she may run for Senate against Lisa Murkowski in 2022Former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said that moving to the 'bubble' of Washington, should she win, would be 'a sacrifice' but one she was willing to make if she felt called to do so. What she leaves out is that by being Alaska's US Senator in Washington she'd be sacrificing Alaska, not herself. She should stay in Alaska - that way she could see Russia from her home.
