Yanghee Lee, the former U.N. Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Myanmar, described the charges as well as the verdict as “bogus,” declaring that any trial held in the country is unfair as the judiciary is subservient to the military-installed government. Beijing hopes “all parties in Myanmar will bear in mind the long-term interests of the country, narrow differences and carry on the hard-won democratic transition process,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told reporters Monday.
While she has disputed allegations that army personnel killed Rohingya civilians, torched houses and raped women and she remains immensely popular at home, that stanceThe incitement charge centered on statements posted on the Facebook page of Suu Kyi’s party after she and other party leaders were detained by the military. She was accused of spreading false or inflammatory information that could disturb public order.
Defense lawyers are expected to file appeals in the coming days for Suu Kyi and two colleagues who were also convicted Monday, the legal official who relayed the verdict said. They have argued that Suu Kyi and a co-defendant, former President Win Myint, could not be held responsible for the statements on which the incitment charge was based because they were already in detention when the statements were posted.

Other cases against her include the alleged unregistered import and use of walkie-talkies by her security guards; a violation of the Official Secrets Act, in which jailed Australian economist Sean Turnell is a co-defendant; and corruption charges.
I’m sure the CIA will find another candidate.
I would care more if she didn't turn a blind eye to a genocide occuring on her watch.

She is no angel! She terrorized the Rohingya Muslims. Pure evil.
She had my support then lost it when she denied the genocide of the Rohinger people .what goes around comes around
If there was ever a time for the CIA to do some questionable things, now is the time
She gained international prominence as the serene, smiling face of the struggle for democracy, winning the Nobel Peace Prize and basking in comparisons to Mahatma Gandhi for her promotion of nonviolence. She shouldn't be jailed for standing against the corrupt system

Democracy has always been challenged at all ideological and political fronts, including primitive but common human dispositions. Can we ever truly be more socially advanced, when we insist on rejecting change and inclusion of all?

She supported genocide. She deserves the death penalty and her Nobel award revoked.

The problem is Myanmar's Constitution gives the Defense Services the right to quell all foreign and domestic issues and that their decision is final.
Smh
Just the ruling of a military’s kangaroo court. I hope the people of Myanmar can somehow restore democracy without bloodshed, but the military junta will not allow that to happen FreeMyanmar
The cases against Aung San Suu Kyi are widely seen as contrived to discredit her and keep her from running in the next election, since Myanmar’s constitution bars anyone sent to prison after being convicted of a crime from holding office.
