The verdict comes several months after a military junta took power in Myanmar following a military coup against the country’s elected government led by Suu Kyi's party.

A Myanmar court on Monday sentenced the country’s ousted leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, to four years in prison after finding her guilty of inciting public unrest and breaching Covid-19 protocols, a ruling that comes several months after she and her political party were deposed by a military coup.

Former Myanmar President Win Myint was also handed a four-year jail sentence under the same charges, the spokesperson added.
