Three family members have been arrested on suspicion of child abuse and torture in the death of an 11-year-old girl in Spring Valley, a sheriff’s official said Tuesday.
Leticia McCormack is the girl’s mother. Adella and Stanley Tom are McCormack’s parents, according to sheriff’s Lt. Chris Steffen.In addition to child abuse and torture, McCormack and Stanley Tom are accused of murder in the girl’s death. McCormack and her parents also face allegations they abused and tortured the girl’s two sisters, ages 6 and 7, Steffen said.
As detectives processed the scene Aug. 30, Aarabella’s father drove up to the home. When deputies contacted him, he shot and killed himself in his pickup, Steffen said. “The safety of our children is of paramount importance to the Sheriff’s Department,” Steffen said, in part, in a statement. “Conducting an accurate investigation is a long and tedious process. Gathering evidence and conducting interviews must be done methodically while protecting the children and preserving the rights of parents and family members.”
