While that majority was largely driven by Democrats and Independents—with 92% and 75% opposing “presidential immunity,” respectively—even 48% of Republicans said they did not agree with Trump’s claims.in April over whether former presidents are immune from charges that arise from their acts in office, as they took up Trump’s motion to dismiss the federal case against him for trying to overturn the 2020 election.

Only 24% of respondents said they actually trust the Supreme Court “to issue a fair and non-partisan ruling” on the immunity issue—including 38% of Republicans and 14% of Democrats—as past polling hasThe Politico/Ipsos poll also examined Americans’ views on Trump’s upcoming trial in Manhattan on charges stemming from “hush money” payments made during his 2016 campaign. That trial is expected to take place this spring, even after the judge ordered aon Friday.
