Mets ace continues to recover from shoulder injury he suffered in spring training

While his teammates prepared for the first game in a three-game series against the Braves, Senga threw a bullpen session Friday. Though Mets manager Carlos Mendoza wasn’t there to see his ace in action, pitching coach Jeremy Hefner provided him with an update.“He’s working through his mechanics,” Mendoza told reporters. “He’s not feeling like he’s there yet. So wait and see how he comes back tomorrow and the next day, but it’s more mechanics that he’s dealing with right now.

“Those pitches were ready for competition,” Hernandez told NJ Advance Media. “His sweeper and split had a lot of movement. Even his fastball moves up a lot. Nothing he throws stays there in the zone.” Senga emerged as the ace of the staff last season. That’s when in 29 starts, he posted a 12-7 record with a 2.98 ERA and 202 strikeouts over 166-1/3 innings . This earned him an All-Star nod and NL Cy Young votes — he placed seventh in the award.Mets slugger is continuing troubling ‘trend’ rival warned about last season
