Starting on Tuesday, Mar 12, the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office is starting operation ‘Up in Smoke’.

According to Sheriff Paul Burch, the smell of marijuana is becoming commonplace in some areas.He says he’s not condoning illegal activity but if you’re going to smoke marijuana, do it at home.

The sheriff says some places his deputies will be checking include parks, grocery stores, and major shopping centers. “I just haven’t seen it very much I’ve been out here during Mardi Gras and other events down on Dauphin Street. I think if people really want to do that they can do it in the privacy of their home,” Cook said.Sheriff Burch says if caught, you’ll be arrested. He released the following statement below,

If you choose to consume illegal drugs, including marijuana, in public or in a vehicle, especially when occupied by children, YOU WILL BE ARRESTED.
