GLAAD has responded to Matt Damon's comments about using the 'f-slur,' saying they are 'an important reminder that this word has no place [in media]' and 'there needs to be accountability at a time when anti-LGBTQ slurs remain rampant'

“During a recent interview, I recalled a discussion I had with my daughter where I attempted to contextualize for her the progress that has been made – though by no means completed – since I was growing up in Boston and, as a child, heard the word ‘f*g’ used on the street before I knew what it even referred to.

GLAAD’s Head of Talent Anthony Allen Ramos released the following statement regarding Matt Damon’s use of the f-word on Monday evening. “The conversations that have arisen after Matt Damon’s original interview and subsequent remarks today are an important reminder that this word, or any word that aims to disparage and disrespect LGBTQ people, has no place in mainstream media, social media, classrooms, workplaces, and beyond,” said Ramos in the statement provided to.

I also heard tons of other slurs for race and gender. Times change. The people so quick to cancel someone now had parents who used the same words 30 yrs ago. Rather than cancel him, congratulate his kids for not repeating his ignorance.

Matt Damon Says He Stopped Using Homophobic F-Slur Just RecentlyMatt Damon says he stopped using the word in recent months. Someone probably has a tape of him saying it so this is a preemptive move. These comments are funny to me, because people act like it's hard to just be respectful, Christians get mad when they are under attack yet want to be homophobic, straight white males are the same whine when they get attacked but want to say slurs, how about just respect others? I honestly think he was trying to highlight how young people can teach the Elders how to nix certain words from your vocabulary. Shall we move on to the R-word. I bet no one coming after him can claim they haven't used the R-word in the last 10 years.
