Matt Damon says he stopped using homophobic slur 'months ago' after plea from daughter

Bourne Ultimatum Matt Damon star has admitted he only recently stopped using the homophobic slur 'f*****',after his daughter wrote him a 'beautiful treatise' explaining how it was dangerous

The Bourne Ultimatum star said he made a 'joke' involving what his daughter calls the “f-slur for a homosexual” just “months ago”.But after being criticised by his daughter for using the term at the family's dinner table he has decided not to use it anymore.

Damon, 50, told The Sunday Times after she 'left the table', he told her: "Come on, that’s a joke! I say it in the movie Stuck on You !"I made a joke, months ago, and got a treatise from my daughter. She went to her room and wrote a very long, beautiful treatise on how that word is dangerous. I said, ‘I retire the f-slur!’ I understood."

And he says he had used the slur as it 'was commonly used' when he was a child, but 'with a different application'.The father to three girls also told how he feels his interviews are scrutinised a lot more than when he started his film career in the mid 1990s.

He said: “Twenty years ago, the best way I can put it is that the journalist listened to the music more than the lyrics [of an interview]. “Now your lyrics are getting parsed, to pull them out of context and get the best headline possible.“Before it didn’t really matter what I said, because it didn’t make the news. But maybe this shift is a good thing. So I shut the f*** up more.”

Last week Matt made headlines again for making a cheeky jibe at Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's rekindled romance. He made it known that he is a big supporter of the genetically blessed pair when he spoke to Extra during the red carpet premiere of his new movie Stillwater.

And as Good Will Hunting's Ben took part in an interview with SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show, days after the film event, he made a light-hearted jibe at his mate as he teased that he 'hates true love.'During the chat, Jess said: "You're very happy for Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, I know you love getting asked about that."

Damon grinned as he replied: "Right! But how else would I be? Like, would I be unhappy? Like 'I hate true love, it sucks,'" he joked while laughing. Read more: Mirror Celeb »

Matt Damon Says He Stopped Using Homophobic F-Slur Just Recently Matt Damon says he stopped using the word in recent months. Someone probably has a tape of him saying it so this is a preemptive move. These comments are funny to me, because people act like it's hard to just be respectful, Christians get mad when they are under attack yet want to be homophobic, straight white males are the same whine when they get attacked but want to say slurs, how about just respect others? I honestly think he was trying to highlight how young people can teach the Elders how to nix certain words from your vocabulary. Shall we move on to the R-word. I bet no one coming after him can claim they haven't used the R-word in the last 10 years.

Matt Damon Admits He Just Recently Stopped Using the 'F-Slur'The 'Stillwater' actor is stirring controversy after opening up about why he quit using an anti-LGBTQ slur. They are so quick to stop people saying the F word for gay people but not the N-word for Black people y’all are funny man 👎😂😂👎🤦‍♂️ It amazes me that he did not understand that there would be backlash. Has he been living in that large of a bubble? When will people learn that it is not necessary to tell ALL of your personal business? If he's stopped using the word, good for him. Nobody would've known this if he hadn't have opened his trap.

Matt Damon reveals his daughter recently inspired him to stop using the 'f-slur'The 50-year-old actor and star of the new film 'Stillwater' revealed that 'months ago' he stopped using the homophobic slur for gay men. Recently? How did he not stop this a long time ago? And the F-word. Both vulgar

Matt Damon Says Daughter Taught Him Not To Use 'F-Slur For A Homosexual' Months AgoWe repeat: months ago. I heard the word all the time in the 90s. I also heard tons of other slurs for race and gender. Times change. The people so quick to cancel someone now had parents who used the same words 30 yrs ago. Rather than cancel him, congratulate his kids for not repeating his ignorance.
