Mastercard and startup Headstart on the case for why more diverse workplaces are the key to business growth.
Jeremy Hindle, cofounder at diversity-focused recruiter Headstart, and Shamina Singh, president of the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, joined' Katherine Love on stage at Forbes Under 30 Summit Global Retreat in Bratislava to discuss how technology can help drive change., views his mission as working towards “breaking the cycle of exclusion.” By removing bias from recruiting processes, Headstart aim to present a fuller picture of a person’s capabilities.
Shamina Singh agrees that with many employers hopping between jobs companies must broaden their outlook to find the right talent. “People aren’t staying in one place for very long, and when you have a talent pool constantly moving this idea of not looking at people as the sum of their experiences and not looking at larger capabilities is the biggest evolution,” says Singh.
Singh warns businesses need to consider the costs of not having a diverse workforce. “If you don’t have diversity you get lost. Blind spots make you miss the next opportunity.” Hindle and Singh agree that there is no “gold standard” for diversity in the workplace, and this continues to evolve. Measuring progress was the key, according to Hindle. “It’s about measuring progress.
