JUST IN: Mark Silverstein, the 72-year-old legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado, announced his retirement today.

But times have changed. And for the last two decades, much of that change has been driven by one of Colorado’s most influential civil rights attorneys, Mark Silverstein. The 72-year-old legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Colorado announced his retirement Wednesday.

Silverstein spent 31 years as an attorney for the ACLU, leading the organization’s legal efforts in Colorado for 26 years after a five-year stint in California. He plans to stay on the job until a new legal director is hired. “Mark Silverstein has been a giant in the field of civil rights for decades,” said Denver attorney David Lane.

D.C. attorney general sues Mark Zuckerberg over Cambridge AnalyticaD.C. Attorney General Karl Racine announced today he is suing Mark Zuckerberg for failing to protect Facebook users during the Cambridge Analytica privacy scandal. Penalties should be based on a percentage revenue to properly incentivize companies like Facebook to protect their users. I'd suggest 5 to 10 percent. Good!!! That's ridiculous. Campaigns mine data. How is that his fault? It was for political purposes which have much more liberal constitutional protections than commercial use. He is welcome to make that sort of thing more difficult in the future.
